1. Airless Paint Sprayer Graco Magnum 262805

This sprayer has made it so much easier to do my home painting projects. I have purchased several airless sprayers in the past but they all seemed very similar. not sure why there were so many that worked well until now. The difference between this one and the others are:(1) It’s really loud — I’m not sure if all the ones out there are as loud but it’s definitely louder than the other ones I’ve used. (2) The first few times I had some paint residue build up on the back plate after each spray because I wasn’t paying attention to where the paint was hitting (my bad). After watching a couple videos online, I realized what was happening and fixed the problem by making sure the backplate was cleaned off completely before applying another layer of paint. That said, I don’t think it would be hard to avoid having an issue here or there unless you’re purposely trying to leave buildup (which I’d imagine you could easily fix).

(3) A lot of people complained about the spray gun being plastic. Sure, it is–but look at the picture above. The metal part surrounds/holds the plastic spray gun. There is nothing wrong with the plastic spray gun holding itself together with plastic. People need to realize that it’s made like that so it will fit onto the holder properly. You can see in one of the pictures how the sprayer fits into its holder.

Nothing is broken. If you try to force it, it won’t fit. It took me a while to figure these things out but once I did, my work went quickly.

2. Graco Magnum 257025 Paint Sprayer, Multicolor

I bought this in Feb 2020 as I was looking into painting my home exterior walls. This thing has been great. It’s made it so much easier than using other methods. The spray nozzle will need replacing soon but that comes with buying a new product which is expected after about 40 uses. The sprayer itself feels very sturdy and well built.

There are some parts where I feel like maybe they went over the top but still not by much. For example there is an internal compartment meant to be used for storing your wire brush or roller and all those attachments during transport. That same compartment can also be used to store your extension wand should you choose to not bring along your gas powered one. There are plenty of accessories included to make the job easier. The kit comes with several different types of nozzles, including one specifically designed for smaller jobs such as walls, ceilings and cabinets. They even throw in two different ones for larger jobs just in case. Nozzle adapters are also provided so you can swap them out on the fly instead of having to remove the entire unit to change out the tip.

They also come with a small plastic container meant to hold all your paints and brushes while you work. If you prefer to roll your own then there is another set of containers included so you can have everything ready to go at any time. Those are the basic supplies needed but they do offer more should you ever want to buy additional tools. Everything can be found on amazon though so if something breaks later you might be able to find the replacement part elsewhere. The sprayer does require electricity but it plugs in easily via USB cable. Should you wish to connect to an alternate source of power such as batteries then you must also supply a separate adapter.

During use the sprayer will automatically shut off after 90 seconds because that is what the safety switch requires. You can override the switch however and continue to run it indefinitely. The manual states that this can be done for testing purposes only and that overriding the shutdown function could lead to bodily injury or property damage. It takes between 20 – 30 minutes to fully cover a typical house exterior. if you’re doing a 2 story building or have multiple buildings (such as a row houses) then things will take longer. Your coverage rate will determine how long it’ll take to complete. My average coverage rate is around 75 sq ft per day.

Works perfectly fine for me. The sprayer shoots water based latex paint quite nicely. I’ve had no issues with drips or runs. As long as you stir your paint regularly every minute or so then you shouldn’t have any problems.

I recommend mixing in at least 3 cups of primer before beginning. Also make sure to clean your sprayer after each use. Not doing so will cause the pump to fail prematurely. Once again most of these types of pumps are expensive and fragile.

When properly maintained they last for years. If you don’t already have a ladder then this may not be the best purchase for you. While it is lightweight it is bulky and needs to be moved frequently since it sits on its tail. Oftentimes ladders are required for painters anyway due to height differences especially when working on roofs. Because of this I would actually consider purchasing a stairwell easel rather than trying to drag this thing up and down stairs repeatedly. All in all we love this thing.

After being bombarded by both ends of the spectrum i see now why this is rated highly.

3. Graco Magnum 262800 Airless Paint Sprayer, Blue

I have used this device twice now after doing two different painting jobs. I am very pleased with it’s performance. The first time was in my garage where I had several cars on display as well as other various car related items such as tools, parts etc. After using about 20 gallons of primer/clear coat, it did an amazing job covering everything. It made even the largest wainscoting look like perfect black smudges. The second job was for a client who wanted her whole home painted.

She was astonished at how well it worked considering that it has never been used before. I rented a larger compressor (Graco 477777 Ultra Pint Saver) so we could mix more than 16oz of paint and do the trim work which required more then 16 ozs. The job was done in just three days and covered approximately 350 sqft of wall space. Again the coverage was awesome and the results superior to any other method I’ve ever used or seen. Cleanup is quick and easy with the help of the included adapter. You can connect a shop vac or some other type of vacuum to the adapter to quickly suck up all the excess paint if you need to cut back on the amount applied but I don’t find it necessary. If you are careful though be sure not to apply too much paint.

Even professional painters get carried away while painting. They tend to brush on too much until they notice their product isn’t sticking anymore and then go back and add another layer. That’s why you’ll see so many reviews saying to thin your paints. All these devices will produce dust bunnies but the less you use the better the result will be. How does it compare to other airless sprayers. Well there aren’t many to choose from.

This one would probably be the closest in terms of features and quality construction. Of course there are cheaper ones out there also. Most of them filter the paint, something this one doesn’t. While this one won’t exactly match every feature found on those expensive units, it still provides plenty of good value. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it.

4. YATTICH High Power HVLP Spray Gun, Easy to Clean

I am so impressed with this paint sprayer. After researching all of the reviews I decided to take a chance on this one. I am actually surprised at how amazing this product is because when I first unboxed it there was nothing special about it. But once I started using it, I immediately noticed what made this product so superior. First off, the cleaning process of the gun is 100% easier than other sprayers that I’ve used or seen on YouTube. All you do is turn the gun upside down and quickly unscrew the lid and then remove the rubber screen. Next, add some cleaner into the bottle and then screw the lid back on while turning the gun upright again.

Finally, unscrew the white cover off the spay tip section and then remove each individual nozzle. This whole process takes me about 30 seconds to complete. Which means I can spend more time painting instead of fiddling with the gun. Secondly, the actual paint usage capacity isn’t very large compared to most other sprayers I’ve used in the past. Although my research showed that this sprayer holds approximately 47oz of paint, I usually end up having to swap out the tank every few minutes. So far, I haven’t run out of paint even though I’m still several hours away from finishing my project.

And finally, speaking of finishes. Unlike many other sprayers I’ve used, this sprayer works perfectly with latex paints. My wall paint didn’t seem to give me any problems whatsoever. In fact, I just finished applying olive green paint to my kitchen cabinets and they turned out beautifully.

So if your looking for an easy-to-use painter’s tool or if you’re tired of buying expensive sprayers that don’t produce good results, then you should definitely consider getting this one.

5. HomeRight Finish Max Paint Sprayer HVLP Electric spray gun

I bought this sprayer to use in my kitchen remodel to apply wood veneer after the drywall was completed. I read many reviews about issues spraying water based finishes using this sprayer but wasn’t prepared for what happened when I used it. After reading through some videos on YouTube, I realized I had screwed up by not following the “rule of thumb” sprayer cleaning instructions. Basically, you need to unscrew the lid off, take off the rubber filter and clean it thoroughly with acetone if there is any gunk on it. Also make sure to clean the threads on the sprayer itself.

If those are dirty, you will have the same issue when you try to clean the inside of the sprayer. Do these steps before you start using the sprayer. Save yourself lots of headache if you do them right. Once finished, screw the lid back on and test run your sprayer to ensure no clogs happen. Then put everything back together and voila.

6. Wagner Spraytech HVLP Stain sprayer for Indoor/Outdoor Home Projects

I have used this sprayer to apply water based PVA stain to my kitchen table. The sprayer worked well and applied an even layer of stain across the top of the table with minimal effort (as opposed to using a brush). It did a good job of reaching areas that are hard to access. I made sure to wipe off excess liquid after it was applied so that any spots would dry properly. The only issue that I had was the amount of paint that came out when I sprayed the edges of the table.

There is no way to reduce the amount of paint coming out around the sides but you can minimize the mess with the two gallon kit by applying one coat in the center and then adding another half liter of clear fluid to the inside of the ring. This will ensure that the coverage area is much greater than brushing. If you need to apply multiple layers (for example pva stain on top of polyurethane), make sure to clean the sprayer between each application. If you do not clean it properly, you run the risk of creating bubbles in the final product.

7. Campbell Hausfeld Gravity Feed Paint Spray Gun with 600mL Canister

It’s a good gun but I haven’t painted with it yet because I have all my other guns still working so I opted to review them instead. My main issues are that 1. the trigger is total crap. First time I went to press the button there was an immediate response and then when I tried again. ZERO response. 2. the power cord needs to be replaced IMMEDIATELY or else you will have a bad experience.

3. The hose connecting the tank to the sprayer is too short and tightens up quickly. It would’ve been nice if they had placed it on the side where it was more protected from being damaged. Other than those two points which are purely cosmetic. (1) Is obviously not made well. You may want to consider getting one from another company just to see if they might be better.

As far as how effective it is. that remains to be seen. We’ll let you know down the line.

8. Sun Joe 24V-PS1 24-Volt Cordless Handheld Paint Sprayer

I bought this so I could spray my stained furniture pieces before taking them to an outdoor wood burning studio where they would get treated with fire water. This allows me to spray a thick coat relatively quickly compared to using brushes which can take forever. The spray gun does have some oddities that took me a bit to figure out. Primarily, if you are spraying any kind of thick fluid, be it liquid or powder based products, there is absolutely NO way to clean the tip because whatever product comes out will eventually clog the nozzle. It’s not hard to understand once you realize what the deal is. You want to keep your spray gun as clean as possible. Cleaning is simple enough since all you do is remove the hose from the unit and flush the inside thoroughly with clear water.

Be sure to dry it off after cleaning. There isn’t much leeway in terms of drying time either. If you don’t properly rinse and dry your spray gun, the residual moisture content in the body will cause the plastic to become brittle over time and deteriorate. Always ensure that your spray gun is rinsed prior to storing it.

The other issue revolves around the fact that the battery life depends on how well you maintain your equipment. That means keeping it charged. Again, it’s fairly obvious but one thing I didn’t know is that when you charge a battery, it also increases its weight. And although being heavy doesn’t NECESSARILY mean that it’ll last longer, too much weight will certainly shorten the lifespan of your sprayer. So again, make sure to charge your equipment whenever possible.

10. HomeRight 2412331 Quick Finish HVLP Paint Sprayer

I bought this because I had read some reviews saying how they used this brand in their jobs and were pleased with them. When I was considering buying one, there was only one negative review that made me pause (a home right model), but after seeing pictures and reading other reviews, I decided to take a chance on this one. I am not disappointed. I’ve sprayed three different types of wood with two different types of primer/sealer and when dry, the finishes are very nice looking. One thing I did notice is that my arm strength does seem to be required at higher settings; I keep having to use both hands to hold the trigger down while spraying.

Also, cleaning will require quite a bit of time. But considering all the mess and fuss of using traditional methods, well worth the effort. The spray gun comes with attachments that allow you to direct the spray horizontally, vertically, and circularly. There is also an adjustment knob that allows you to change the amount of paint applied. A safety lock prevents over application. A bagged masking tape is included along with plastic cup for applying clear coat. As others noted, the price is pretty high compared to what I could find at local stores, but there’s no competition that I could see.

And with the ability to customize the spray pattern, I’m confident I’ll get many years of service out of this little investment.
